冲动

chōngdòng - impetus, impulse

I was listening to Chinese music on my way to work this morning and trying to understand the lyrics. The song I was listening to as I reached work was called 冲动 (by Power Station(动力火车)), so I was curious as to what it meant; it means impulse, a rushed movement. Below are the lyrics to the song. Lots of interesting words there. I've also included the sentence below because I want to learn how to say 'do something on impulse'. I seems the phrase is 凭一时冲动 - there are a lot of hits on Google for that phrase.

他凭一时冲动买下了这所房子。
He bought the house on an impulse.
