zháo - touch, feel, be affected by; catch fire; fall asleep

When I came up with the idea of having trying to learn a Chinese character each day, I'd forgotten that I'd actually tried something similar a couple of time before. The first time was in 2007, when I wrote one character on every day of my calendar, but it lasted less than a month. I've just come across the calendar so I'm going to add the characters on this blog; there are some very useful words.

As part of that project I tried to learn some compound words contain that character. In this case: 着急, 着凉, 着实, 着迷, 着手 and 著作, which goes to show what a versatile character this is. And that's ignoring the fact that it can also indicate a verb in progress (pronounced zhe).
